เมื่อวันที่ 7 เมษายน 2569 นายนฤชัย นินนาท กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ พร้อมด้วยภริยา เข้าร่วมงานเทศกาลปีใหม่ลาว ณ วัดพระยอดแก้วธรรมยานาราม นครซิดนีย์ โดยมีท่านจาตุลง บัวสีสะหวัด เอกอัครราชทูตสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาวประจำออสเตรเลียเป็นประธาน
งานดังกล่าวถือเป็นงานประจำปีของพี่น้องชาวไทยและชาว สปป.ลาวในนครซิดนีย์ โดยภายในงานมีกิจกรรมมากมาย อาทิ พิธีสรงน้ำพระ การแสดงศิลปวัฒนธรรม และการออกร้านอาหารไทย - ลาว ถือเป็นหนึ่งในเทศกาลส่งเสริมความสัมพันธ์อันดีและความใกล้ชิดระหว่างชุมชนไทย-ลาวในออสเตรเลีย
วัดพระยอดแก้วฯ นอกจากเป็นวัดที่ชุมชนไทยศรัทธา ยังมีบทบาทช่วยเหลือสถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ ในการฌาปนกิจคนไทยที่เสียชีวิตโดยไม่มีญาติหรือยากไร้อีกด้วย
On 7 April 2026, Mr. Naruchai Ninnad, Consul-General of Thailand in Sydney, together with his spouse, attended the Lao New Year Festival at Wat Phrayortkeo Dhammayanaram in Sydney. The event was presided over by His Excellency Mr. Chatoulong Bouasisavath, Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Australia.
The festival is one of the largest annual gatherings of the Thai and Lao communities in Sydney. The event featured various activities, including the traditional bathing of the Buddha statue, cultural performances, and Thai–Lao food stalls. It also served as an important occasion to promote close ties and strengthen the longstanding relationship between the Thai and Lao communities in Australia.
Besides its revered status, Wat Phrayortkeo has been assisting the Royal Thai Consulate in cremating deceased Thai citizens who have no family or were destitute.
