เมื่อวันที่ 9 มีนาคม 2568 สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ ร่วมกับสวนสัตว์ Taronga ซิดนีย์ จัดพิธีเจริญพระพุทธมนต์เพื่อความเป็นสิริมงคลแก่ช้างไทย เนื่องในโอกาสที่ช้างไทย "ผักบุ้ง" และ "แตงโม" จะย้ายไปยัง Monarto Safari Park รัฐเซาท์ออสเตรเลีย ในช่วงปลายเดือนมีนาคม ศกนี้ โดยมี พระพรหมมุนี กรรมการมหาเถรสมาคม เจ้าอาวาสวัดพระศรีมหาธาตุวรมหาวิหาร กรุงเทพฯ เป็นประธานฝ่ายสงฆ์ นำคณะพระเถระ ประกอบด้วยพระธรรมวชิรรังษี เจ้าอาวาสวัดป่าพุทธรังษี ลูเมียห์ ที่ปรึกษา สภาคณะสงฆ์ธรรมยุติออสเตรเลียและนิวซีแลนด์ พระราชสีลาภรณ์ เจ้าอาวาสวัดธัมมธโร ประธานสภาคณะสงฆ์ธรรมทูตธรรมยุติ ออสเตรเลียและนิวซีแลนด์ และ พระครูวิเทศธรรมานุศาสน์ เจ้าอาวาสวัดพุทธรังษี แอนนันเดล กรรมการสภาสงฆ์ธรรมทูตธรรมยุติ ออสเตรเลียและนิวซีแลนด์ และพระสงฆ์ รวม 9 รูป ร่วมเจริญพระพุทธมนต์และประกอบพิธีพรมน้ำพระพุทธมนต์

โดยนางสาวอาจารี ศรีรัตนบัลล์ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา นางหัทยา คูสกุล กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ และคณะผู้บริหารจากสวนสัตว์ Taronga Zoo ซิดนีย์ เป็นประธานฝ่ายฆราวาส โดยมีข้าราชการจากสถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา พร้อมทีมประเทศไทย ร่วมถวายเครื่องไทยธรรมและภัตตาหารเพลแด่พระสงฆ์ ภายในงานยังมีการแสดงดนตรีไทยและรำไทยวรเชษฐ์ จากชมรมดนตรีไทยและนาฏศิลป์แห่งออสเตรเลีย บรรยากาศภายในงานเต็มไปด้วยความอบอุ่นจากผู้มาร่วมส่งช้างไทยจำนวนมาก

ในโอกาสนี้ นางสาวอาจารี ศรีรัตนบัลล์ เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้กล่าวถึงความสำคัญของช้างไทยในประวัติศาสตร์และวัฒนธรรมไทย พร้อมชื่นชมความร่วมมืออันดีระหว่างรัฐบาลไทยและรัฐนิวเซาท์เวลส์ในการอนุรักษ์และดูแลช้างไทยในออสเตรเลีย ซึ่งเป็นส่วนสำคัญในการอนุรักษ์สัตว์ป่าให้ยั่งยืนต่อไปในอนาคต และแสดงความขอบคุณทีมงานสวนสัตว์ Taronga ที่ให้การดูแลช้างไทยอย่างดี โดย "ผักบุ้ง" และ "แตงโม" ได้ทำหน้าที่เสมือนทูตวัฒนธรรมที่เชื่อมความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประชาชนชาวไทยและออสเตรเลีย ได้รับความรักจากชุมชนชาวไทยและออสเตรเลียอย่างอบอุ่นตลอดมา

On 9 March 2025, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Sydney, in collaboration with Taronga Zoo, Sydney, held a Buddhist blessing ceremony for Thai elephants to bring auspiciousness as "Pak Boon" and "Tang Mo" will be relocating to Monarto Safari Park, South Australia at the end of March.

The ceremony was presided over by (1) Phra Phrom Muni, Abbot of Wat Phra Sri Mahathat Woramahawihan, a member of the Supreme Sangha Council, (2) Phra Dhamma Vajirarangsee, Abbot of Wat Pa Buddharangsee Leumeah, Advisor to the Council of Dhammayut Buddhist Monks in Australia and New Zealand, (3) Phra Ratchasilaphon, Abbot of Wat Dhammadharo, President of the Council of Dhammayut Buddhist Monks in Australia and New Zealand, and (4) Phra Khru Vidhayathammanusart, Abbot of War Buddhrangsee Anandale, a committee member of the Dhammayut Buddhist Monks Council in Australia and New Zealand. A total of nine monks led the prayers and performed the sacred water sprinkling ritual for Thai elephants.

H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Canberra, along with Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Consul-General of Thailand in Sydney, members of Team Thailand and executives from Taronga Zoo, Sydney, led attendees in offering alms and lunch to the monks.

The event also featured traditional Thai cultural performances, including Thai classical music and Thai dance, presented by the Thai Classical Music Club in Australia.

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with esteemed guests, members of the public, and the Thai community in Australia attending in large numbers.

On this occasion, Ambassador Arjaree highlighted the significance of elephants in Thai culture and their connection to the Thai and local community in Australia. She commended the collaboration between the government of Thailand and the government of New South Wales in sharing knowledge in animal care and conservation which was a vital step in ensuring sustainable conservation of wildlife for future generations. The Ambassador also expressed gratitude to the Taronga Zoo, Sydney team for their dedicated care of Thai elephants, "Pak Boon" and "Tang Mo,” who served as cultural ambassadors, fostering the bonds between people of Thailand and Australia.
