เมื่อวันพุธที่ 3 กรกฎาคม 2567 นางหัทยา คูสกุล กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ ให้การต้อนรับ Ms. Kay Spencer ประธานองค์กรการกุศล Hands Across The Water ซึ่งจัดตั้งขึ้นเพื่อให้ความช่วยเหลือเด็ก ๆ ที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากภัยพิบัติสึนามิในประเทศไทย เมื่อปี 2547
นอกจากองค์กร Hands Across The Water จะช่วยเหลือจัดหาที่อยู่ให้เด็ก ๆ ชาวไทยที่สูญเสียบุคคลในครอบครัวและที่พักอาศัยจากสึนามิแล้ว ยังมอบทุนการศึกษาเพื่อความมั่นคงในอนาคตอีกด้วย ในช่วงที่ผ่านมาทางองค์กรได้จัดกิจกรรมปั่นจักรยานเพื่อระดมทุนในประเทศไทยทุกปีตั้งแต่ปี 2009 ปัจจุบันองค์กรได้จัดตั้งบ้านพักเจ็ดแห่งทั่วประเทศไทย และให้การสนับสนุนเด็ก ๆ แล้ว 350 คน
ในโอกาสนี้ Ms. Kay ได้แจ้งถึงการเตรียมการจัดกิจกรรมวิ่งการกุศล The Run to Remember ในวาระครบรอบ 20 ปี ภัยพิบัติสึนามิในประเทศไทย โดย Mr. Peter Baines ผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งองค์กร จะทำการวิ่งเป็นระยะทาง 1,400 กิโลเมตร เป็นระยะเวลา 26 วัน ผ่านจังหวัดต่าง ๆ ในประเทศไทย เพื่อการระดมทุนช่วยเหลือเด็ก ๆ ต่อไป

On July 3, 2024, Ms. Kay Spencer, Chairman of Hands Across the Water (HATW), met with Ms. Hataya Khusakul, Consul - General at the Royal Thai Consulate-Genreal in Sydney.
Hands Across the Water, founded by Peter Baines following the devastating 2004 Phuket tsunami, is a charity dedicated to supporting Thai communities, particularly children orphaned or affected by the disaster. Over the years, HATW has provided them with education, housing, and healthcare, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
During their meeting, Ms. Spencer and Consul-General Hataya discussed HATW’s upcoming fundraising event, “The Run to Remember”. This 1400km run by HATW’s Founder, Peter Baines, stretches from the southern to the north-eastern provinces of Thailand starting from 1 - 26 December 2024. It seeks to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Phuket Boxing Day tsunami and raise funds to continue the charity’s sustaining influence.
