The long-awaited Thailand Grand Festival finally came back to Sydney on 14 – 15 May 2022. The biggest Thai event was organised by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney in close collaboration with Thai community organizations in Sydney and New South Wales, with the support from Thai Trade Centre, Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) Sydney Office, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Sydney Office, Office of Agricultural Affairs in Australia, Thai Airways, Singha Beer and RATCH-Australia Corporation.
The opening ceremony was held on Saturday 14 May 2022 at 11 am, with Mrs Hataya Khusakul, Consul-General of Thailand in Sydney, as host. Notable representatives from the Thai side were H.E. Ms Busadee Santipitaks, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Australia, and Ms Somradee Chitchong, Deputy Governor for Administration, Tourism Authority of Thailand. The whole Thai community felt very honoured that the Honourable Magaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales, presided over the opening ceremony, as well as Councillor Robert Kok as the representative of Lord Mayor of Sydney.
The Festival featured authentic Thai cuisine, art and handicraft, as well as sport and cultural performances for the residents of Sydney and New South Wales to enjoy. The event was also one of the celebration activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Australia.
